A clever and fascinating imaginary (?) soundtrack which combines acoustic guitars, computer treatments and sound samples from movies (children's voices etc. but also the sound of a projector running, every now and then). Moreover, there's also a series of dialogues between man and wife (?) in the mix, as read by Ingegerd Pettersson and Güsta Nydahl. (What they're going on about may be interesting, but since they're doing it in Swedish, I can't really tell.) "Tonefilm" reminds of Daedelus (but is less jazzy) or a Yann Tiersen gone IDM. At times exotic and original (like a slowed down theme from "Amélie Poulain"), at times a bit predictable, yet never tiresome. And always Autumnal. Should also appeal to those of you who are into Notwist, Morr, Plug Research, Greg Davis (cf. U0212), or Terence Davies movies. Appelqvist's stage performances are said to be inventive - so there'll be none of that dullard staring into laptops when he comes to perform in your city. He previously released "The Xiao Fang ep". "Tonefilm" was mastered by Andreas Tilliander. (pv)
